Aaron is a musical purist, meaning he tends to only enjoy music made by traditional instruments and people's voices. I, on the other hand, love just about every kind of music imaginable, save country. This would include music made using synthesizers, drum machines, and computers. In fact, I can remember back in middle school one of my most prized CDs was Bjork's Post-- techno, kind of, only more melodic... more human. It's still an incredible album, truly; it's one of those you can listen to all the way through and love every second.
I have found another Post. Handsome Furs' new album, Face Control, has changed my musical life (or at least my musical six months... I'm fickle). Track nine, in particular, feels to me like it mimics the beat of my own circulatory system. I FEEL this song with every nerve in my body, especially when playing it at a loud volume. I've had the disc on repeat in my car for about three weeks, and I must have played and replayed track nine at least fifty times. I am convinced Dan Boeckner must have snuck in my room while I was sleeping and took my vitals as the inspiration for this song. Edit: if you plan on giving just track nine a try, I recommend using headphones or turning the volume WAY UP to get the best listen.
Seriously. If you have not heard this album, and you are open to electronic music, I suggest you procure a copy post-haste. Even if it sounds a bit off at first (which the album did to me), it will grow on you. Three listens, and I was hooked. What's more, I'll be seeing them live for the second time in July.
Ah, life is beautiful.
Sometimes.
Fickle.
